The 2013-14 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey base set has another 200 cards. These pick up from where the first set left off. On top of that, there are an additional 50 Young Guns. While Series 1 was loaded, there are still a handful of key players like Aleksander Barkov saved for Series 2. Base cards have two parallels: Exclusives (#/100) and High Gloss (#/10).Printing Plates are also randomly inserted for Young Guns.
UD Canvas returns. The textured cards feature different photos versus their base counterparts. The checklist also doesn't match up exactly the same. All UD Canvas cards combine to fall 1:6 packs, however there are several different types. Veterans are the most common, landing 1:7 packs. There are also Young Guns (1:48 packs), Team Canada (1:192 packs) and Retired Stars (1:192 packs).
Continuing with the update theme are a pair of continuations from earlier sets. MVP, a one-time standalone brand that's now included as part of the flagship Upper Deck Hockey set, has new rookie cards (1:24 packs) and veterans (1:72 packs). Sticking with tradition, these have Gold Script (#/100) and Super Script (#/25) parallels.
Already the biggest set of the year, O-Pee-Chee Update makes it even bigger. Collectors can expect five O-Pee-Chee Update cards per hobby box plus two Retro parallels. Red Border parallels are also included, although they're extremely tough to pull.
On the memorabilia card front, UD Game Jerseys and Rookie Materials each land one per hobby box. Both have numbered patch versions as well.
Autographs are rare. UD Signatures are the easiest ones to find at 1:400 hobby packs. O-Pee-Chee Update Signatures (1:2,880 packs) and MVP One-on-One Signatures (1:5,760 packs) are also randomly inserted.
Hockey Heroes continues to move through the decades. Now focusing on the superstars of the 1990s, there are two per box. The header and art cards are short prints at 1:576 packs each.
Rookie Breakouts bring an upscale acetate feel to 2013-14 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey. All are numbered to 100.
Day with the Cup fills the gaps in the checklist. The set, which follows Blackhawks players as they take the Stanley Cup to their home towns, is a case hit.
