Although it has assumed a prominent role in sports collecting, chromium does not have quite the same legacy with hockey collectors. Aiming to fix that, 2015-16 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey is the follow-up release to the product's debut in 14-15. Each hobby box features one on-card rookie autograph per box and multiple inserts and parallels.
Checking in at 190 total cards, the base set is broken into three primary subsets. The traditional base set includes 150 current stars and is joined by ten Legends of the Game cards. There are also 30 Marquee Rookies with Connor McDavid leading the way.
Building on that total, collectors can chase ten different parallels, many of which are numbered. Options include Rainbow, Traxx, White Ice, Red Prism, Black Ice, Blue Cubes, Seismic Gold, Purple, Emerald Surge and Golden Treasures (1/1).
Featuring on-card signatures from the top first-year players, including Connor McDavid, Rookie Autographs also feature the same ten parallels found for the base set but with more limited print runs.
Dropping several per box, die-cut inserts see decent coverage with Superstars, Team Logos and Trophied Talent. There are also rare signed parallels.
Rounding out the release, O-Pee-Chee Retro inserts total 100 cards and several different versions. In addition to basic parallels, there is also a limited autographed option.
