Baseball isn’t the only sport where prospecting comes into play with up-and-coming players working their way through the ranks. Hockey might not have the same prospecting foothold on the hobby as baseball, but it’s there. 2017-18 Upper Deck AHL Hockey is one of the bigger products of the season dedicated to the game’s young players.
Although not overly complex from a structural standpoint, the product does have a solid amount of autographs and other chase elements.
Base Set
It starts with the base set. Totaling 150 cards, AHL standouts are featured. Some may have made brief appearances in the NHL already, but most are working their way up through the ranks.
Fifty short prints add a level of challenge for set builders. These land approximately ten per hobby box.
The entire 2017-18 Upper Deck AHL Hockey base set has a Silver Foil parallel version. These are inserted three per box. Printing plates are also available.
Autographs and Inserts
2017-18 Upper Deck AHL Hockey Autographs use the same basic design as the main set. Like the base cards, short prints come into play on the checklist.
Packs have just one additional insert set. Team Standouts spotlight the best of the best in the AHL.
Each 2017-18 Upper Deck AHL Hockey hobby box also comes with a Team Logo Mini Poster. Although not traditional hockey cards, with all 30 teams represented, putting together a full run could pose a challenge for those willing to undertake it.
