The NHL season will be in full swing once 2017-18 Upper Deck Trilogy Hockey releases in early January and collectors will be ready to get their hands on plenty of ink from the freshman class that will undoubtedly have some hobby favorites within it.

With eight packs per box, Trilogy expects to deliver something in each pack on average with the potential to pull three autographs and five serial-numbered cards inside. There will be some popular concepts returning like Signature Pucks and Tryptichs alongside plenty of autos on Plexi-Glass.

Base Set and Parallels

The 2017-18 Upper Deck Trilogy Hockey shell set is a relatively simple affair this time around as there are only three announced parallel versions of the 50 basic cards. Blue Rainbow (/999) is the most common, but the Green Rainbow and Black Rainbow parallels will be more desirable as they feature jersey pieces or prime material, respectively. Both of the latter parallels will be limited to varying quantities.

Trilogy offers up just 33 different Common Rookie Cards (/999), but there are Uncommon Autograph Rookies as well which are split into three tiers (/149, /249/, or /349). Rare Autograph Rookies are limited to 49 copies each and will likely contain some form of inscription if the pattern from previous releases is followed.

Interestingly, there are unsigned Uncommon and Common Rookies which are numbered to either 25 or 149. In all likelihood, these cards will be of Nico Hischier and Nolan Patrick.

Black parallels for all of the above Rookies will be available and limited to as few as three copies each.

A memorabilia version of most, if not all, of the 33 different Rookies will be produced as well. The Common Rookies have a Green jersey parallel (/399) while Uncommons feature a patch piece (/35). Rare Rookies get a Green Tag edition that is numbered out of five.

Autographs

Signature Pucks are back for another season and have an all-new look for 2017-18 Upper Deck Trilogy Hockey. The basic version is seeded once in every 18 packs and has much scarcer parallels with Team Logos (/18) or the NHL Shield (/3).

Stanley Cup Championship Signature Pucks (1:560) are a much tougher pull and can be found with Team Logos (/10) or the Stanley Cup (/3) in the area where the player has signed. Trophy Winners have a regular version that is just as scarce and have the expected Team Logo (/8) and NHL Shield (/2) variations. Hall of Fame Signature Pucks turn the focus to legends of the game (1:560, with Team Logo /10 and Hall of Fame Logo /3 versions). Those that are looking for multiple autographs should take a look at Combo Signature Pucks (1:560) and their Team Logo (/5) and NHL Shield (one-of-one) parallels.

Signed Plexi-Glass cards are another staple in Trilogy and there are three types to collect. Ice Scripts are the most common (1:85), followed by Personal Script (1:500). Scripted Hall of Fame Plaques (/25) could be a breakout collection here and have a sharp design along with a winning theme.

There will also be Triple Rookie Autos (/25) that have a one-of-one Black parallel.

Memorabilia

The primary focus of the memorabilia program in 2017-18 Upper Deck Trilogy Hockey will once again be the Tryptich Relics. They will come with either jersey pieces, premium materials, or signatures (all with varied numbering).

Other memorabilia hits will include Triple Relics and Honorary Triple Swatches.
