– Four autograph or memorabilia cards
Releasing just in time for the start of the new hockey season, 2017-18 Leaf In The Game Superlative Hockey aims to pay tribute to the sport’s illustrious history while also managing to keep an eye on the future as well.
Loaded up with four autograph or memorabilia cards per box, this release is going to get some strong attention from collectors due to the presence of signatures from the two top picks in the 2017 NHL Draft – Nico Hischier and Nolan Patrick – that are exclusive signers for Leaf Trading Cards. Throw in an incredible array of vintage memorabilia pieces and Superlative could prove to be a quick seller indeed.
Memorabilia Cards
Leaf’s inventory of vintage hockey memorabilia is second-to-none and 2017-18 Leaf In The Game Superlative Hockey will have plenty of it to discover. Most of the collections offered up this season have multiple swatches and will certainly be quite limited as tradition dictates with the Superlative brand.
Blades of Steel, an old favorite of In The Game collectors, is back and will feature coveted pieces of game-used skates. Retired Numbers is another single-swatch effort and looks back at some legendary players who have had their names and numbers raised to the rafters of their home arena. If that was not enough, look for Retired Numbers Multi, which feature five players from different clubs who wore the same number depicted on the same card.
The multi-swatch fun begins with League Leaders, which has three players that paced the league in a particular year. The combos could be quite strong here and Leaf is also producing a Prime version as well. Super Teams looks back at six members of a particular team and puts them all together with a piece of game-used material for each of them. There are also Vintage Super Teams which have three pieces and players instead, but the combinations have a good chance to be remarkable.
Superlative Careers takes a look at some of the all-time greats and gives collectors five pieces of memorabilia to enjoy. Silver Stick Club is a new four-swatch concept which pays tribute to those that played in at least 1,000 games. Superlative Seasons combines six players that had a big year and Superlative Debut matches four players that played their first game in the same campaign.
The biggest draw for many collectors breaking open 2017-18 Leaf In The Game Superlative Hockey are the Superlative Super Patch cards. With large and eye-catching pieces, these one-of-one treasures have gathered up a reputation for their visual appeal and tend to perform well on the secondary market.
If that was not enough, though, Superlative Shields add even more potential value to boxes. There is a basic version which contains the league logo from the back bottom cuff of the jersey, but even more appealing than that are the Superlative Shields Signatures that add a little bit of ink. Both collections are expected to be one-of-ones.
Autograph Cards
The autograph program in 2017-18 Leaf In The Game Superlative Hockey is relatively simple, but it will deliver some big names. Superlative Signatures appears to be the main collection to be found in packs and will include some big names like Mario Lemieux and Phil Esposito along with those that have cult followings like Pierre Turgeon and Manon Rheaume.
Superlative Rookie Signatures is bound to be just two different cards in Hischier and Patrick, but there is little doubt that these cards will be desired by their fans since they will not have autographs in products licensed by the NHL and NHLPA in 2017-18 and beyond.
