With 2016-17 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey, one of last year’s critically-acclaimed releases is back and it is loaded up with a virtual rainbow of parallels plus plenty of autographs and inserts.
Coming to stores and Upper Deck ePack starting in March, this product is a shiny update to the conventional O-Pee-Chee set and will include members of this season’s impressive rookie class.
Base Set and Parallels
Like last year, 2016-17 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey is going to have a 150-card base set plus 50 Marquee Rookies. It is hoped that the Marquee Rookies will be numbered as part of the base set to be considered true rookie cards, but regardless, the lineup is expected to be strong.
With multiple levels of parallels to collect, those focusing on specific players or teams will definitely have a lot of cards to track down. The easiest to find are the Rainbows (1:4), followed by Ice Blue Traxx (1:10) that come twice per box on average. From there, the lineup boasts Red Prism (/199), Royal Blue Cubes (/99), Seismic Gold (/50), the hobby-exclusive Rainbow Orange (/25), Emerald Surge (/10), and Golden Treasures (one-of-one).
The OPC Retro partial parallel set is also back with a design that feels like it came out of the early 70s. Not a challenge to pull at 1:4 packs, these cards also have parallels which include Rainbow (1:20), Gold Rainbow (/149), Orange Rainbow (/49), and Red Rainbow (/15).
Inserts
One of the intriguing aspects of 2016-17 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey that will be appreciated by collectors in the traditional insert program. Platinum Phenoms (1:27) are all about the young stars while Puck Personas (1:22) has potential on name alone. NHL Logo Crest (1:15) is a bit of an odd name for an insert, but the design does appear to be sharp and should translate well to the chrome stock. All three insert types are die-cuts as well.
Autographs
All autographs in 2016-17 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey are hard-signed. Rookie Autographs are the principal focus, with a conventional version (1:36) plus numerous parallels which include Rainbow (1:180), Red Prism (/50), Seismic Gold (/25), hobby-exclusive Rainbow Orange (/15), Emerald Surge (/10) and the one-of-one Golden Treasures.
Not to the left out, there are Retro Autographs that are long-odds hits at 1:150 packs for the Rookies and 1:300 for the Veterans.
Finally, all three types of inserts will have an autographed version with Platinum Phenoms (1:650) being the easiest to pull. NHL Logo Crest and Puck Personas autos both come at a 1:1,400 rate.
